What do they cost?
Submitted by Amy on Tue, 05/06/2008 - 11:57pm
We keep wondering to ourselves: what is all this going to cost us - besides the actual baby delivery?
See http://www.babycenter.com/babyCostCalculator.htm for a good calculator. Holy moly.
We can beg and borrow lots of stuff from family and friends around us. Whew, good thing, lucky us!
Diapers alone - wow.
WOW to all of it.

Ok-Is this thing on? I'm still not sure i'm doing it right amos....
Ahhhhh....$$$$$$ we waited 10 years to have our first because of $$$$-when the time was, well, not perfect but better I got pregnant then steve's company proceeded to close, 8 weeks post baby, i lose my job. Yes, we could not have timed it more perfectly HA! I think the main cost is Daycare, other than that, "stuff" just seems to show up. Yes, diapers seem expensive, but with the price of gas going up they'll almost seem cheap! (maybe thats not comforting) It's all good to crunch the numbers but when you see that baby's face and those cute toes it all seems pretty cheap!
Love ya,
j
yep, $ makes the world go round!
Cute toes and butts - parts ya'll are crazy about and I'm sure I will be too! I love those little button noses!
We didn't time this one at all. We just hope that we can set up some sort of 'fund' for our loved-ones to want (key, here - want!) to donate so we can order diapers! So click on the ads for us - that helps too!
EVERYONE, and I mean everyone, is telling us it works out, which, is hard for us to understand cuz we want to know, "ok, well, how?" I can only think that we work out the 'how' for ourselves. But I'd sure like all the advice I can get! So, how did you work it out for yourselves??
Another blogger gave us what looks to be a really cool possible thing that looks like it helps you save for your kids' college education. That'd be wonderful: I sure would love to provide that for my child; personally, I'm on the 40-yr plan to pay off my student loans! I'd like for my child to not have to do that. But, my kid will be SO SMART that they won't even need it - he or she will get a full-ride scholarship! yeeeaaahhhh, that's the ticket!
Yeah, I'll put a vote in for
Yeah, I'll put a vote in for "not comforting". :P
Thanks for the comment. It's so crazy to think of all this stuff we never really looked at before... well, I didn't. I was watching/listening to others and all I could say is "bummer". Now, I cringe and bury my head back down into my computer to work a few more hours. So far, I can't imagine what this is all going to be like so I'm just feeling pretty stressed.
It's really funny to me that everyone seems to have a different baby part that makes them do the "awwwww, it's so worth it!" thing. :) This is the first mention of toes specifically, but people seem to dig the tiny feet a lot. My sister is all about the baby butts and I'm thinking tiny hands will be a clincher for me, for some reason.
Anyway, thanks for the note!

Check this out...
To help save money for college for the boys and soon-to-be girl, we signed up for this FREE program. It's called Upromise, and it's super easy. The coolest thing is that family and friends can help out. Basically, when you buy certain products/brands, a percentage of the price goes into an account for your child. Then you can create a 529 account. I have no idea what that is, but Jeff is excited about it... I just buy the stuff ;) HEre's the website: https://lty.s.upromise.com/whatIsUpromise.do?cx=l1
really cool!
That is SOO Cool!!! We'll definitely check it out for sure! Thanks for the info!
I love shopping.
Thanks Sarah. We'll check
Thanks Sarah. We'll check that out.
However, I think I've got a better idea -- I haven't run this past Amy yet, but I think we're just going to buy our kid a college diploma online instead of sending him/her to college. That ought to be just about the same... and MUCH cheaper!!
Oh what a relief! I'm glad I thought of that! It's like I just got a massive tax refund... I'm gonna go buy a boat.
Oh, and congratulations, Dr. Baby!! Wheee.... we have a doctor in the family and it's not even born!
Thanks, Internet!!
